Perched on a rocky outcrop of the Gabbro Hills in the heart of Madikwe, Mateya Safari Lodge’s high elevation gives it an uninterrupted view of the reserve.
The lodge is named after the legendary Queen Mateya, and its library and extensive art collection are a treasure trove that would make even the most royal of art lovers weak at the knees.
The lodge caters for a maximum of 10 guests, with each of its five individually designed, luxury air-conditioned thatched suites offering views of the waterhole and plains. The suites are arranged in a radial configuration around one of the hills, and each has a private, rim-flow pool deck.
The lodge’s library houses a rare collection of works of African literature dating back to the turn of the 19th century; while its art collection is one of the finest in the region, ranging from majestic oils to life-size bronze sculptures. Activities beyond the lodge include game drives and bush walks, guided by experienced field guides and trackers.
